Personality:
Positive Trait: Caring There are a lot of words to describe Emma's positive traits. She's brave, she's kind, she's an (overall) good person. All of those traits are connected to the fact that Emma cares about people. When Emma Swan cares about someone, they have her loyalty and her endless support. She's stood up for people who the town turned against, she's jumped through portals, and she's revisited the most painful parts of her past all because someone mattered to her.

And Emma, who was raised in the foster system and constantly moved around, spent most of her life without having someone who cared about her. Love was always fleeting and people constantly left her behind. The understanding that she does care so deeply for people (specifically, her family and friends) after what she's been through makes it her most significant positive trait.

Negative Trait: Stubborn If Emma's strongest trait is being caring, her worst negative trait is being stubborn. It was probably fair to refuse to believe in Regina's curse when a ten year-old boy was telling her it was magic. But then there was a "murder" and a string of coincidences, and a trusted friend begging her to see the truth. There were times when the only logical conclusion was that something unbelievable was happening in Storybrooke, and Emma just refused to buy into it.

And then there was her insistence that she and Henry needed to go back to New York City when even Henry wanted to live in Storybrooke. She pushed for a normal life in spite of knowing that wasn't in the cards for her, and insisted that they were happier in the city than they were in the place that felt like home to both of them.

Plus, she fought her own romantic feelings for Hook for two seasons because he's a pirate and a scoundrel (he's super hot though). And maybe that would also be fair if that was all he was, but Killian has constantly put her first ever since he realized he cared about her. And while Emma obviously feels the same attraction and cares for him, she refused to acknowledge it until her canon-point episode.

Negative Trait: Short-tempered Emma has her father's temper (and probably her mother's, too). Our introduction to Emma Swan in the pilot is her slamming a guy's head into his steering wheel because he's a creep who said something mean to her. She often threatens violence when she's mad and sometimes it actually comes to blows. When she's pissed off, she'll let the other person know it in how she behaves, whether it's petty comments or childish threats.

Negative Trait: Impulsive When Mulan and Aurora threatened Mary Margaret, Emma fired off a gun to make a point. Instead of threatening them, she ended up alerting ogres to their presence and needed Mary Margaret to rescue her. She often dives in headfirst when she is worried about someone, and it's only after she screws up that she slows down and tries to think things through.

Emma has never shied away from confrontation, particularly where Storybrooke villains are concerned. When Regina tried to run her out of town, Emma cut down a section of one of Regina's prized apple trees to make a point. She did this in broad daylight, and stormed off after arguing with Regina. It only made the situation with Regina worse, but it also revealed that Emma is the type of character to make bold, impulsive moves.

Powers and Abilities: Emma has one overall ability of "magic", which has canonically allowed her to do many things. In canon, all magic comes with a price, so she is generally careful about how she uses her powers. These are the abilities we have seen through her magic:

- Telekinesis - Moving objects with her mind
- Locator spells - Ability to cast a spell to help find someone in the area
- Pyrokinesis - Conjuring and controlling fire (small flame)
- Energy blasts (Magical blasts meant to repel someone, not seriously harm them)
- Healing (not from death)
- Emotional fluctuation of electrical items (flickering lights when she's really upset, this isn't something she would do on purpose)
- Ability to use magical items (dream catcher, looking glass, wand)
- Protection/barrier spells (can be broken by someone with greater understanding of magic).

Abilities she has that are not magical include:

- Hand to hand combat
- Use of firearms and swords
- Lie detecting (this one is basically her being able to get a good read on people because of her own life experiences of people lying to her. When she is emotionally invested/compromised, it doesn't work.)
- Detective skills/experience
- Finding people (from being a former bailbondsperson)
